Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from a standard OCR tool?
OCR tools convert documents into text — the result is unstructured plain text. DokuScan goes further: the AI specifically extracts the fields you have defined and returns them as a structured table. A delivery note does not become a wall of text, but an Excel row per item position.
Do I need to create a separate template for each document type?
Yes — but that is the core concept. You define once which fields should be extracted. After that, processing runs fully automatically for all further documents of the same type. Templates are included without limit in all packages.
Does DokuScan also work with handwritten documents?
Yes. DokuScan combines OCR with AI extraction. Handwritten documents are recognised as long as the writing is legible. For uncertain fields a confidence value is shown so you can check specifically.
Which formats can I export to?
Excel (XLSX), CSV and JSON. Column names correspond exactly to the field names you defined in the template. JSON is ideal for custom integrations or further processing via script.
Is there an API?
Yes, the Business package (EUR 79 / 2,000 scans) includes API access. This allows you to integrate DokuScan directly into your own applications or workflows.
